All of which brings us now to Chapter 1 of The Barter 3: Rescue, just ahead of you. This one begins within five minutes of its prequel, The Barter 2. I’ve always found it difficult to contemplate the possibility that the United States government might someday turn its military technology and weaponry against the American citizens it’s supposed to protect. However, in order to write this story, which also features Jaimie Hernandez, I had to do just that. It’s a difficult proposition to countenance. And if circumstances ever evolved to that terrible point, who in the world would come to the aid of a destitute, disarmed American populace, or in particular, a man like Jaimie Hernandez?
